As the Yankees wreaked havoc on the American League in 1927, (24) marquee signatures were gathered on this OAL Johnson baseball. The medium-toned orb has a thin uniform layer of period shellac, which covers black-ink fountain pen scriptings whose qualities range from (“9”) to (“3”) in terms of potency. Based upon a personalization penned by “Geo. W. Connally,” we assume that the ChiSox hurler acquired the scriptings, one by one. Includes: Sweet Spot: Ray Schalk (“5-6” strength), Eddie Collins (“6-7” strength); North Panel: Sam Rice (“7-8” strength), Goose Goslin (“8-9” strength), Tris Speaker (“9” strength), Babe Ruth (“4” strength), Lou Gehrig (“3-4” strength), Herb Pennock (“3” strength); South Panel: Ty Cobb (“6” strength), Lil Stoner, Walter Johnson (“4-5” strength), Bibb Falk; West Panel: H. Ruel, Bucky Harris (“8” strength), George Sisler (“7” strength), Harry Heilmann (clubhouse), Earl Whitehill; East Panel: Tommy Thomas, Ted Lyons (“5” strength), R.T. Peckinpaugh, unidentified, Alex Metzler, Willie Kamm and unidentified. Full photo LOA from JSA.
