This lot comes from the personal collection of Dick Luther, a venerable Wisconsin basketball coach who has associated with and befriended countless athletes over the years. One of four Luther lots in our current auction, these vintage original materials are being offered for the first time as the coach is liquidating his lifetime collection. Please see the Other Sports-Auto Racing, Baseball Cards-Sets & Near Sets and Basketball-Autographs categories for the other three lots.

The only signer that was not a driver is flag man Duane Sweeney, who worked the race 1980-1996. All other signers are drivers who qualified for the Indy 500. Though the visor was reserved as a place of honor for race winners, there a several additional highlight signers located around the helmet includng the (2) oldest drivers present with: Carl Marchese who raced in 1929 and was the "Rookie of the Year" that season and Duke Nolan who raced in 1938; and of course the great Bobby Allison. Below you will find a complete list of signers including indications on the deceased.
