Influential 19th Century American poet Walt Whitman (d.1892) crafted the greatest work of his later years, “Specimen Days” in 1881. The featured autographed note dates itself to 1882, the year of the volume’s release in citing “Specimen Days complete prose writing (one vol.) will be out 15th” along with the publisher’s name “Rees Welsh & Co. Philadelphia”. Measuring 4 x 2-1/2”, this antique announcement is tastefully framed and double matted to overall dimensions of 13-3/4 x 17-1/2” with a finely detailed sketch print of the philosopher-poet. Whitman’s graceful (“8-9”) quality signature generously spans the width of the note card, which remains appealing with discernable writing and light even toning. Enjoy this potentially unique signed note from “the father of free verse”. Full photo LOA from JSA.
