Description

"I felt enough of him under my glove on that last hook to know it was a good enough punch to put any man down hard," said Liston, whose 25-pound weight advantage and 13"-longer reach proved too much for Patterson in a 1st-round KO. Dated six months prior, this "Memorandum of Understanding" showcases beautiful "9-10" signatures of "Floyd Patterson" and "Charles Sonny Liston," along with that of Championship Sports President Thomas A. Bolan (promoter). The 8-1/2 x 11" onion-skin page carries an embossed Championship Sports seal and displays an EX appearance overall (small filing holes in two of the four corners) with the all-important Patterson/Liston signature area being Near Mint. The text reads, "It is hereby understood and agreed between the undersigned that all provisions of the agreement entered into between the undersigned on March 16, 1962 for a heavyweight championship match between Floyd Patterson and Sonny Liston are in full force and effect. It is further agreed that said match will take place on September 25, 1962 at Comiskey Park, Chicago, Illinois under the provisions of the aforesaid agreement of March 16, 1962." It is accompanied by: 1) "Memorandum of Agreement" photocopy that spells out all the terms; 2) Liston's Manager George Katz's 5/9/62 photocopied letter to the PA State Athletic Commission; 3) 7/3/62 letter to Patterson's lawyer Julius November from the Illinois State Athletic Commission; 4) Signed LOA from Janet Patterson. Full LOA from JSA.
