With glory days in the rearview mirror, the 1971 Yanks managed an 82-80 mark with outcasts from around the big leagues and a few promising home-grown products. As they battled in vain in a rugged American League East dominated by pitching-rich Baltimore, (13) Bronx Bombers autographed this Ron Hansen signature model bat. Headlining the parade is the bold scripting of a young Thurman Munson (“8” strength). Full photo LOA from JSA. Complete details on our website.
The Hillerich & Bradsby (34.2-oz/35”) “R161” Ron Hansen signature model bat was turned during the 1965-1968 labeling period and was likely employed by Hansen during his 1968 season with the Washington Senators (as evidenced by the handwritten notation of “6” on the knob. A lengthy handle crack (mended by a series of vintage bat boy nails) represents the bat’s demise. On the barrel, black marker autographs average (“8”) quality and include: Felipe Alou, Al Closter, Rob Gardner, Ron Hansen, Ralph Houk (manager), Elston Howard (coach, d.1080), Thurman Munson (d.1979), Fritz Peterson, Mel Stottlemyre, Ron Swoboda, Rusty Torres, Jim Turner (coach) and Bill White (announcer).
